Who We Are

The United Muslim Women of Liberia (UMWL), founded in 1987, is a women-only Muslim organization dedicated to uniting, educating, empowering, and mobilizing Muslim women to support faith, family, community growth, and national progress. Over the years, UMWL has become a respected platform for Muslim women’s leadership, social responsibility, charitable activities, and civic engagement both in Liberia and among the Liberian diaspora.

The organization was founded by visionary Muslim women such as Sisters Saran Daramy, Hawa Sillah, Mariama Sheriff, Hennatu Tunis, Fatu Sheriff, and leader Haji Maima S. Keita. Its goal is to foster unity among Muslim women, uphold Islamic values, support women’s education, and actively participate in peacebuilding, moral growth, and nation development.

UMWL aims to empower women as positive societal role models by fostering religious awareness, community service, social protection, and humanitarian aid. The organization acknowledges women's pivotal role in shaping families, communities, and nation-building. With this perspective, UMWL consistently encourages Muslim women to serve with dignity, compassion, discipline, and dedication to the collective good.
